James B. HART

Obituary from newspaper of 20 Dec. 1994:  GOUVERNEUR---James B. Hart, Sr., 80, formerly of Babcock Street, died Monday in Lockport.

    The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Green Funeral Home with the Rev. Allan Ferguson, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 1 p.m.

    Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

    Surviving are his wife, Leola E.; two daughters, Mrs. John (Virginia) Misch, Lockport, and Mrs. Donald (Suzanne) Culver, Westminster, Md.; a son, James B. Hart, Jr., East Lansing, Mich.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.

    Born June 28, 1914, in Clayton, the son of J. Burton and Lottie Whittier Hart, he graduated from Clayton High School in 1931, from training class in 1932 and from Potsdam Normal School.

    He married Leola Hibbard April 17, 1936, in Clayton.

    In 1948, after teaching several years in Depauville and Clayton area schools, Mr. Hart began teaching in Gouverneur are schools.  He was teaching principal at Richville Elementary School and later elementary principal at Fowler Elementary
School, retiring in 1976.

    Mr. Hart was an organizer and charter member of the Gouverneur Teacher's Association Credit Union, was a lifetime Parent Teacher's Association member and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and other educational associations.

    A longtime member and trustee of the the First United Methodist Church, he also was a 55-year member of Gouverneur Masonic Lodge 217 and a past master of the Depauville Lodge.  He was a member of the Mouldy Pond Hunting Club and a former
Cub Scout leader.

   Mr. & Mrs. Hart spent summers in Trout Lake.
