Obituary: Mrs. Cora Leona Nims Allen, 75, native of Clayton and widow of Walter B. Allen, died Friday night at 8:30 at the Henry Keep Home where she had lived since Sept. 14, 1944. In failing health a year, she became seriously ill three
weeks ago.Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Keep Home. Rev. Barber L. Waters, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Clayton cemetery.
Her nearest survivors are a nephew, James D. Nims of Depauville, and a niece, Mrs. Charles J. Mosier of 1010 Academy St.
A rural school teacher in the Clayton area before her marriage, Mrs. Allen and her husband operated a hotel in the hamlet of St. Lawrence during the early part of this century. They left the hotel in 1924.
Mrs. Allen was born July 2, 1875, at Clayton, daughter of Alonzo Nims, a native of Sackets Harbor, and the former Harriette Phillips, a native of Clayton. She was the only girl among four children.
She was educated at the Clayton grammar school and was graduated from the high school. For six years, she taught in country schools.
In 1902, Mr. and Mrs. Allen were married at Clayton. They lived all their married life in that area. Mr. Allen, a marine engineer at one time, operated a gasoline station after he left the hotel business. He died Feb. 13, 1942.
Mrs. Allen continued to live at Clayton until she came to the Keep home. She was a member of the Methodist Church in that village.
