Obituary: CAPE VINCENT, Jan. 5---Maurice George Fitzgerald, 80, died at his home on Broadway at 12:45 Sunday afternoon. He had suffered from a heart ailment for three years.Mr. Fitzgerald, who was known to his friends as Mott, was born Dec. 29, 1861, on Grindstone Island, one of six sons of the late Daniel and Alice Kanely Fitzgerald. He was the last survivor of the family, which included one sister.
On Sept. 1, 1897, he married Miss Jennie Robbins at her home in Pleasant Valley. For seven years after their marriage they lived on Grenadier Island and then moved to the farm at Cape Vincent, where they lived since that time. Thirteen
years ago he sold the farm to J. L. Johnston of New York City, but he remained there as manager.Mr. Fitzgerald was formerly town assessor, village president, and had been director of the Citizens Bank from the time it was organized. He also served as president and secretary of the Cape Vincent fair and was prominent in grange work,
having been a master and a 50-year member. He received his golden sheaf certificate two years ago. A member of both state and national granges, he served as grange fire director for 18 years.He was also a member of the Foresters, the Holy Name Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Church, the Farm Bureau, and, at an earlier date, the Grenadier Island band.
Surviving, besides his widow, are three children, Aileen, who is state public health nurse at Kingston; Louis, who is manager of the J. L. Johnston Stone House stables; and Ray, cashier of the Citizens Bank; four grandchildren, Maurice,
jr., John Edward, Margaret Mary, and Jean Francis Fitzgerald.
