Clarence NUNN

Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of 9 Dec. 1984):  CLAYTON---Clarence W. Nunn, 76, formerly of Clayton, died Dec. 3 in Sanford, Fla.

    The body was cremated and interment will be in Wellsley Island Cemetery at a later date.  A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clayton Methodist Church, with Rev. Dale Austin, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in
Riverside Cemetery, Wellesley Island.

    He is survived by two sons, Edward, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Kenneth, Greenville, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Manley (Mary Lou) Rusho, Sanford, Fla.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

    Born on Wellesley Island March 26, 1908, the son of Bernard C. and Mary VanCamp Nunn, he owned and operated Nunn's Hardware Store on Riverside Drive in  Clayton.  After selling the store, he worked as appliance department manager at
Bradley Hardware Store, Watertown, retiring 10 years ago.

    His marriage to Marion Hibbard ended in divorce several years ago. He has been a resident of Sanfod for the past four years.  He was also a member of the Clayton Methodist Church.


Marion C. HIBBARD

Obituary:  CLAYTON---Marion C. Kring, 80, of 77 Cedar St., Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Clayton, died early Wednesday mroning in Peninsula Hospital, Ormond Beach, Fla.

    Arrangements are with Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill, Fla.

    Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

    Surviving are two sons, Edward C. Nunn, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Kenneth G. Nunn, Greenville, Texas; a daughter, Mary Lou Rusho, Sanford, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Leola Hart, Lockport, and Helen
Dunn, Tucson, Ariz., and several nephews and nieces.

    Two brothers, Rhuel Hibbard and Robert Hibbard, died before her.

    Born in Rochester on Nov. 20, 1912, a daughter of Rhuel B. and Elcena Potter Hibbard, she attended Gloversville schools and Clayton High School.  A marriage to Clarence W. Nunn ended in divorce.  She married George F. Kring.  He died in
November 1973.

    At the time of her marriage to Mr. Nunn, she helped him operate Nunn Hardware in Clayton.

    Mr. & Mrs. Kring operated Kring's Cleaners, Port Orange, Fla., for 10 years.

Marjorie Graham DANO

Obituary (from newspaper of 27 June 1998):  CLAYTON---Marjorie G. Rusho, 88, Grindstone Island, died Friday morning at Edward John Noble Hospital-Samaritan, Alexandria Bay, where she had been a patient since May 17.

    Mrs. Rusho worked on her husband's Grindstone Island farm from 1930 until their retirement in the late 1970s.  She was also employed by various families on Round Island and at the Driftwood Restaurant.

    Born May 4, 1910, on Grindstone Island, daughter of Ambrose and Ordelia Graham Dano, she attended island schools and graduated from Clayton High School.

    She married Leon M. Rusho Sr. on Aug. 11, 1930, in Clayton Methodist Church.

    Mrs. Rusho was a member of Grindstone Island Methodist Church.

    Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Alice) Peron, Central Square; four sons, Manley, Grindstone Island and Florida, Milton, Clayton and Florida, Robert, Abbeville, La., and Leon Jr., Clayton; a sister, Caroline
Archambeau, Rochester; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

    Ten brothers and sisters died before him.

    The funeral is tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Clayton United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Grindstone Island Cemetery.

    There will be no calling hours.  Arrangements are with T.R. Jetty Funeral Home.

    Donations may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department Fireboat or to the Grindstone Island Methodist Church Building Fund.


Alice A. ATHERTON

Obituary (from newspaper of 6 June 1988): Alice A. Rusho, 100, the oldest resident of Grindstone Island, died Sunday morning in the Skilled Nursing Facility at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg.

    The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the T. R. Jetty Funeral Home, Inc., Clayton, with Rev. Dale Austin, pastor of the Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Contributions may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.

    Surviving are a son, Leon Rusho Sr., Grindstone Island; two daughters, Mrs. Benson (Eleanor) Calhoun Sr., Hobe Sound, Fla., and Mrs. Samuel "Jack" (Carlyn) Hammersley, Clayton; 10  grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and nine
great-great-grandchildren.

    A total of six brothers and sisters died before her.

    Born in Manchester, England, on Sept. 17, 1887, a duaghter of Thomas and Ann Parry Atherton, she came to Grindstone Island from England in 1894, at age 7.

    She married Manley A. Rusho on March 31, 1908, at Seneca Falls.  The couple farmed on Grindstone Island until Mr. Rusho's death July 9, 1937, at age 53.

    For many years Mrs. Rusho had spent the summers in Clayton and on Grindstone island, and the winters in Florida.

    She was a member of the Grindstone United Methodist Church.
