Obituary (from newspaper of Thursday, 2 Dec. 1965): CLAYTON---The funeral for Herbert L. Phillips, 65, Cape Vincent Road, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home with Rev. Dean P. Shaw, pastor of the Clayton Methodist Church,
officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home form 7 to 9 tonight and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
The family has asked that any who wish may make memorial gifts to the Heart Fund.
Mr. Phillips died Wednesday morning at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he was admitted Nov. 21.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Earl (Grace) Phillips, Rochester; Mrs. Harry (Mabel) Ainsworth, Rochester; Mrs. Tulio (Ruth) Paolini, Buffalo; Mrs. Albert (Mildred) Garnsey, Clayton, and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Phillips was born March 18, 1900, in Clayton, a son of Grant and Mary Leiterman Phillips. He attended school at Clayton and was a farmer during his adult life, living always in this section.
On Oct. 18, 1940, he married Miss Stella Niles of Cape Vincent in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church rectory, with Rev. Frederick Kates officiating. Mrs. Phillips died Jan. 6, 1958, at the age of 59.

Obituary (from newspaper of Tuesday, 29 May 1997): FISHERS LANDING---Grace G. "Aunt Grace" Phillips, 92 of 42191 Arcadia Park, died Monday morning at her home.
Mrs. Phillips was an assembler and a film inspector at Eastman-Kodak Co., Rochester, for many years, retiring June 6, 1969.
She and her husbands had spent summers at Arcadia Park and she returned to the area in early 1990. She had worked at Village Greenhouses, Clayton, until her death.
Born June 6, 1904, in Clayton, daughter of Grant D. and Mary Leiderman Phillips, she was educated in Clayton schools.
She married Harry Garnsey on July 25, 1931, in Clayton. Mr. Garnsey, an employee of General Motors, died Oct. 30, 1960. She married Earl P. Phillips on May 16, 1965, in Rochester. Mr. Phillips, a car dealer in Spencerport, died June 16,
1978.Surviving are two sisters, Mildred P. Garnsey, Clayton, and Ruth Paolini, Sarasota, Fla., and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A brother, Herbert L. Phillips, and two sisters, Florence M. Kittle and Mabel Ainsworth, died before her.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Grove Place Cemetery, Chili.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cummings Funeral Home, Clayton.

Obituary (from newspaper of 20 March 1952): CLAYTON---Ruel Ellison Hibbard, 35, of 623 Theresa St., a resident of this village most of his life, died suddenly Thursday afternoon at his home. Mr. Hibbard suffered a heart attack while unloading
wood from his automobile preparatory to taking it to the house. Death was caused by a coronary occlusion.While lifting the first armload of wood from the car parked near the house, Mr. Hibbard suffered a sharp pain in his side. The stricken man managed to get to the house where he called to his wife, Mrs. Lillian A. Hibbard. Mrs. Hibbard
then summoned a physician, but Mr. Hibbard died before he arrived. The inhalator on the Clayton Fire Department squad car was brought to the home in an effort to revive the stricken man, but all efforts failed.Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Clayton Methodist Church, with Rev. Elmon A. Card, jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery. A Masonic ceremony will be held at the cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian A. Ellison Hibbard, two sons, David Hibbard, 2, and Ruel Hibbard, 10, both at home; his parents, Ruel Bryant and Elcena Potter Hibbard, Clayton; a brother, Robert P. Hibbard, Clayton, and three sisters, Mrs.
Clarence D. (Marian) Nunn, Clayton; Mrs. James B. (Leola) Hart, Gouverneur, and Mrs. Jack K. (Helen) Dunn, Falls' Church, Va.Mr. Hibbard was born at Clayton March 27, 1917. He attended local schools, graduating from Clayton High School in 1937. On Aug. 8, 1941, he married Miss Lillian A. Ellison, of Watertown, in the town of Pamelia, with Justice of the Peace
George M. Lucas performing the ceremony.
Obituary (from newspaper of 16 Dec. 1943): CLAYTON---Mrs. Catherine B. Hawes, 83, widow of William P. Hawes and mother of Ned Hawes of Clayton, died at her home in Philadelphia, Pa., Wednesday afternoon at 1 after an illness of five years.
The body will be brought to Clayton for funeral services in Christ Episcopal Church and burial in the cemetery at St. Lawrence.
Mrs. Hawes was born in St. Lawrence on April 9, 1860, daughter of Sherman and Marrisa Garnsey Beadle. She was married to William H. Hawes in 1879 in Christ Church in Clayton. They had three children, two of whom died 30 years ago. They
were a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Ruth) Breslow and a son, Sherman.As a young girl Mrs. Hawes attended a seminary in Potsdam and in Antwerp.
Mr. Hawes died 25 years ago while the couple resided in Syracuse. Since that time she has divided her time with her son, Ned, of Clayton, and her granddaughters in Philadelphia, Miss Catherine Breslow and Mrs. Ruth Phillips. They are the
only survivors. She was taken to Philadelphia this fall from Clayton in an ambulance.
Obituary (from newspaper of 27 Mar. 1998): CAPE VINCENT---Coletta J. Gray, 89, of 475 Bay St., died Thursday at Genesis HealthCare, Watertown, where she had been a resident since Dec. 31.
Born July 24, 1908, in Clayton, daughter of William and Cornelia Aubertine Pilon, she was raised and educated in Clayton and at Grindstone Island. She graduated from LaFargeville High School and had worked in a Clayton knitting mill
before her marriage.She married Weldon O. Dailey in the summer of 1937 in Watertown. Mr. Dailey died Aug. 18, 1976. She then married Eugene Francis Gray on Sept. 16, 1977, at her home in Cape Vincent with the Rev. Stanley Tanner officiating.
Mrs. Gray was a member of Cape Vincent United Methodist Church and its women's organization.
A prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cape Vincent United Methodist Church, the Rev. Mark Pierce, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery later in the spring.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Terry K. Dailey, Brownville; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Wava) Bourquin, Dexter and Florida; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A brother, William Pilon, and four sisters, Ruth Pilon, Constance Aubertine, Blanche Snell and Margaret Cotter, died before her.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
