Obituary (from newspaper of 4 April 1949): CLAYTON---Mrs. Carrie Garnsey Fitzgerald Russell, 82, widow of John Russell of Clayton, died Sunday evening at 10 in the Jefferson County Sanatorium, Watertown. Mrs. Russell suffered an embolism and
entered the hospital last Monday.Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 from the Cummings Funeral Home in Clayton with Rev. Henry Bridge, pastor of the Clayton Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Mrs. Russell was born on Grindstone Island, March 30, 1867, a daughter of George R. and Amorita Chase Garnsey. In 1886 she was married to James Fitzgerald of Clayton, who died in 1901. Of the six children born to this couple, four are
living. Ther are: Mrs. Karl (Leona) McAvoy, Clayton; Mrs. Walter (Esther) Roach, Binghamton; Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Maricle, Buffalo, and George Fitzgerald, Binghamton.In 1904, Mrs. Russell was married to John Russell. Two children of this marriage survive. They are Mrs. Lorne (Rosalie) Barker of Dexter and Ernest L. Russell, with whom Mrs. Russell had been residing in Clayton.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell resided on a farm near Clayton until Mr. Russel retired in 1937. At that time they moved to the Garnsey apartments on Merrick St., and resided there until June, 1945, when Mr. Garnsey died.
Surviving Mrs. Russell besides her children are three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Gladys) Marshall, Mrs. Malcolm (Lula) Cummings, and Miss Eva Garnsey, and a brother, John Garnsey, all of Clayton.

Obituary (from newspaper of Monday, 13 April 1987): CANTON---Carrie E. Garnsey, 95, Grindstone Island native and widow of John M. Garnsey, died Saturday at the United Helpers Nursing Home, Canton, where she lived since September.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Clayton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dale Austin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Town of Cape Vincent.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 tonight at the Cummings Funeral Home, Clayton.
Surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Two sons, F. Thornton and J. Garland Garnsey died previously.
Born on Grindstone Island Aug. 22, 1891, a daughter of Savanna H. and Elizabeth Carnegie Slate, she was educated on the island.
She married John M. Garnsey of Grindstone Island May 30, 1908, at Grindstone Island Methodist Church, with Rev. Samuel Ferguson officiating.
After their marriage, the couple lived on the Mid-River Farm, Grindstone Island, for 32 years. Mr. Garnsey, a boatman and island caretaker, died March 28, 1963, at age 88.
Mrs. Garnsey was employed at the former Hawns Knitting Mill, Clayton, for many years.
She was a member of the Clayton United Methodist Church.
Obituary: CLATYON, Oct. 3.---Mrs. Eva A. Garnsey, 78, of 541 Merrick St., died this morning at 5:50 at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she had been a patient since Sept. 21.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Clayton, with Rev. Russell E. Little, pastor of the Clayton Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mrs. Garnsey is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Winnie) Lindsey; one granddaughter, Mrs. Robert R. (Rosemary) Phillips; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Malcolm (Lula) Cummings, Mrs. Gladys Marshall; and one brother, John
M. Garnsey, all of Clayton.She was born on Grindstone Island on Nov. 7, 1882, daughter of Frank and Emmoretta Chase Garnsey and lived here all her life.
Mrs. Garnsey was a member of the Clayton Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S. and of the Rebekah Lodge 109 of Clayton.
