Obituary (from newspaper of 12 Sep. 1915): WILLIAMSTOWN---Charles Balcom, an aged and highly respected citizen of this town, died Thursday morning, after an illness of about three years with a complication of disease and the infirmities of old
age.Mr. Balcom was born in St. Lawrence County, N.Y., and was 86 years old. He lived in Redfield for many years and was one of the best farmers in town. March 3, 1855, he married Miss Mary Jones, the fruits of this marriage being nine
children, eight of whom are living--Mrs. Mary A. Davis of Deerfield, Mrs. Estella Bowles, of Utica, Evan, Oliver, Mrs. Leslie Elmer and Miss Lennie Balcom of Redfield, Mrs. W. A. Grant of Williamstown, and Everett of New York City. Mrs. Balcom
died about 15 years ago. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. D. A. Jones of Florence.August 21, 1901, Mr. Balcom married Miss Clara Bolster of West Monroe who survives. He purchased a fine residence in this village and had resided here since. Mr. Balcom was one of the best known men in this vicinity. He was an honest,
industrious man and his friends were legion. He was a very religious man and often supplied the pulpits in Florence, Redfield and Williamstown in the M. E. Church.

Obituary (from the Orwell Times of 20 Feb. 1920): Mrs. Clara R. Balcom, wife of Rev. Chas. R. Balcom, who died in 1915, passed away at her home in this village last Friday morning, a victim of pneumonia. She had been in poor health for
sometime and was not able to battle with the disease. The deceased was born in the town of West Monroe and lived there until her marriage to Mr. Balcom in 1901. Soon after their marriage they came to this village. Deceased leaves a mother,
Mrs. Lovisa Bolster who resided with her daughter, three sisters, Mrs. Lewis Smith, Camden; Mrs. Oscar Dunn, Constantia; Mrs. Fred Cottet, Syracuse and one brother, Francis E. Bolster, Amboy. Funeral from the home at 2 o'clock Sunday
afternoon. Rev. A. A. Lawrence, her pastor, spoke words of sympathy from the text, :which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast and which entereth into that within the veil" and from her favorite Psalm, the 23rd Psalm.
The remains were placed in the receiving vault awaiting burial in Fairview Cemetery here.
