Hubert BAMFORD

Obituary from newspaper of 1 April 1969:  Hubert Wells Bamford, 78, of the Rome State Road, near Rices, town of Watertown, died at 4:25 this morning in the Mercy Hospital, where he had been a patient since Sunday night at 8:30.  Death was
attributed to a "cardio-vascular accident," a stroke he suffered at home Sunday night.

    Surviving him are four children, Mrs. Woodrow M. (Marian E.) Higgins, Cicero, Hiram D. Bamford, Fort Myers, Fla., Miss Emma Jean Bamford, Palm Desert, Calif., and Mrs. Victor H. (Rosabel B.) Degni, Yorkville; ten grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde A. Bamford, Coffeen St. Road, and Hiram J. Bamford, Brownville, and two sisters, Mrs. Muriel Comins, Clayton, and Mrs. Carlos F. (Genevieve "Jean") Reynolds, 1171 Coffeen St.

    Mr. Bamford was born on Wolfe Island, Ont., March 7, 1891, a son of William Wells and Eveline Goslin Bamford.  He came to this country with his parents in 1901 and had since lived in this section.

    For years he lived on a farm on the Massey St. Road, town of Hounsfield.  He married Miss Pauline K. Shead of Field Settlement July 5, 1918 at the parsonage of the old East Hounsfield Church.

    Mr. and Mrs. Bamford lived on the Massey St. Road until her death at the age of 42 on April 12, 1937 in the House of the Good Samaritan.

    Shortly after her death, Mr. Bamford moved to the Rome State Road.

    In early life Mr. Bamford was a farmer and for years he had a milk delivery route in Watertown.  Later, he was a milk hauler for an Adams Center plant, retiring in 1962.


Isabel BAMFORD

Obituary from the Watertown Daily Times of 1 June 1945:  DEXTER--Mrs. Isabelle May Halliday, 83, widow of Charles Halliday, died early this morning at the home of Mrs. H. W. Dorr with whom she resided in this village.  Death followed a brief
illness and was attributed to infirmities of old age.

    Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the Perl B. Johnson funeral parlors here.  Rev. A. E. Blundon, pastor of the Methodist church of Dexter, will officiate.  Burial wil be made in the Depauville cemetery.

    Friends may call at the funeral parlors Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 and evening from 7 to 9.

    Surviving are six children, Mrs. Arthur (Marjorie) Vincent, Camps Mills, Mrs. Frank (Beatrice) Schram, Watertown, Mrs. Ray (Irene) King, Adams, Mrs. Howard (Grace) Cheever, Chaumont, Mrs. Harold (Kathleen) Easton, Watertown, and Henry
Halliday, Utica; a sister, Mrs. Grace Gaskin, Lowville; a brother, Devolson Bamford, Wolfe Island, Ont.; 21 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

    Another son, Charles Halliday, was accidentally killed while working for a power company in Rome in 1929.

    Mrs. Halliday was born on Wolfe Island, Ont., Sept. 20, 1861, a daughter of the late Wells and Irene Dixon Bamford.   Her early life was spent on Wolfe Island.  On Feb. 2, 1882 she was married to Charles Halliday on Wolfe Island.

    Mr. and Mrs. Halliday came to the United States about 1905 and lived on a farm near Chaumont.  Later, they lived on farms in the Star district, near Perch River, and the Depauville section.  Mr. Halliday died suddenly at Depauville  Nov.
21, 1938, and later Mrs. Halliday came here to reside.

    Mrs. Halliday and her father, who was a lake captain, witnessed the famous Chicago fire of 1871 while his boat was anchored in the nearby harbor.  Mrs. Halliday, then ten years old, was a passenger on the boat captained by her father and
the boat was anchored in the harbor when the great fire broke out.

    The Bamfords were pioneer residents of Wolfe Island, the family having built the first frame house on the island.  Mrs. Halliday's mother was the first school teacher on Wolfe Island.
