Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of 23 Oct. 1986): CLAYTON---Eleanor E. Flanders, 75, of 544 Merrick St., died Wednesday afternoon at her home.
Arrangements are incomplete with the Cummings Funeral Home.
Burial will be on Grindstone Island. Donations may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund or the memorial Fund at the Clayton baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sterling (Ruth) George, Clayton, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A brother, Potter F. Kendall, died Sept. 17, 1984.
Born in Clayton on March 3, 1911, daughter of Capt. Charles H. and Sarah Potter Kendall, she was graduated from Clayton High and married Everett Flanders. She was employed at the Hawn Knitting Mill, formerly of Clayton, and later operated
a gift shop on Riverside Drive. She and her husband also ran Flanders' Marina in the Clayton area.
Obituary (from newspaper of 20 Oct. 1997): CLAYTON---The funeral for F. Sterling George, 82, of 212 State St., will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of the Thousand Islands with the Rev. Dr. James Lewis, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Grindstone Island Cemetery.Mr. George died Wednesday morning at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he was admitted Tuesday. Mr. George had been in failing health.
Calling hours were scheduled for 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home, where members of Masonic Lodge 296 will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. today. Donations may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Sally Boss, Cape Vincent, and Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Bitgood, Pittsford; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lewis A., Hannibal; a sister, Oletha Pense, California, and nieces
and nephews.A son, W. Kendall George, died in 1990 in MaComb, Miss. A sister, Dorothy Willard, also died before him.
Born April 28, 1912, in LaFargeville, son of Frederick A. and Florence Mae Van Alstyne George, he graduated from LaFargeville High School, and married Ruth Kendall Jan. 23, 1933, in Clayton Baptist Church with the Rev. John Fowler, then
pastor, officiating.Mr. George owned and operated George's Plumbing and Heating and an oil business on outer James St. in Clayton for more than 25 years, retiring in 1976. That year, he sold the plumbing business to Mellon Bros. (now Mellon and Daye) and the
oil business to the Augsbury Corp., Ogdensburg.He was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church, a 42-year member and past grand master of Masonic Lodge 296, and a member of the NCT Club of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a charter member of the Clayton Lions Club and one of the original
workers on the Clayton Lions Field.

in 1976. Mr. George died Oct. 19.Mrs. George was a member of the First Baptist Church of the Thousand Islands and was a former member of Chapter 274, Order of the Eastern Star.
As a child, she spent summers on Grindstone Island at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Potter.
Obituary (from newspaper of 21 Oct. 1969): Fred A. George, 85, Hannibal, a Brownville native, died Saturday at 12:20 p.m. in Mercy Hospital where he had been a patient a week. He had been in ill health for two years.
The funeral was held this afternoon in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix, with Rev. A. Alton Parker, pastor of the Hannibal United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Fairdale Cemetery, Fairdale.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elwin F. (Dorothy) Willard, Black River, and Mrs. Everett (Oletha) Pence, San Mateo, Calif.; two sons, F. Sterling George, Clayton, and Louis A. George, Hannibal; 11 grandchildren, 28
great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Miss Estella George and Mrs. Clarence (Mabel) Storm, both of Hartford, Conn.Born March 28, 1884, in the Town of Brownville, son of Fred E. and Celia Avery George, he attended Brownville schools. On Oct. 23, 1907, Mr. George married Florence Van Alstyne in the Adams Methodist Church. They operated farms in
Jefferson and Oswego Counties until 1944, when they moved to Hannibal, retiring from farming in 1957. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1967. Mrs. George died Sept. 15 in the Madonna Home at the age of 83.Mr. George was a member of the Hannibal United Methodist Church.

great-grandchildren.Mrs. George was born in Depauville Jan. 17, 1886, a daughter of Secord and Sarah Empey Van Alstyne. She spent her early life at Thousand Island Park on Wellesley Island, where she attended school.
On Oct. 23, 1907, she was married to Fred A. George, a native of Brownville, in the Adams Methodist Church. They operated farms in Jefferson and Oswego Counties until 1944, when they moved to Hannibal where they had lived in the same farm
home since. They retired from active farming in 1957. Their 60th wedding anniversary was celebrated at an open house at their home in 1967.Mrs. George was a member of the Hannibal Methodist Church, the WSCS and Philethea class of the church.
