Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of 23 Oct. 1989): CLAYTON---Joan R. Calhoun, 54, Clayton-Cape Vincent Road, widow of Melvin D. Calhoun, died Saturday afternoon at her home. She had been ill with cancer for two years.
There will be no funeral or calling hours. The body was cremated. Arrangements were with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County Inc., P.O. Box 677, Watertown, or to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.
Surviving are two sons, Melvin H. and Michael C., both of Clayton; two daughters, Shawna L. Calhoun and Mrs. John J. (Tawney) Ferguson, both of Clayton; her mother, Mrs. Vernon (Mary) Turcotte, Ganangoque, Ont.; two grandchildren; two
brothers, Vernon Turcotte, Jr., Gananoque, and Norman Turcotte, Trenton, Ont.; a sister, Mrs. Samuel (Eleanor) Davison, Lansdowne, Ont., and nieces and nephews.A grandson, Ryan M. Calhoun, died Aug. 16, 1988.
Born in Gananoque on Dec. 11, 1934, a daughter of Vernon and Mary Truesdell Turcotte, she married Melvin D. Calhoun July 31, 1954, in Towson, Md.
Mrs. Calhoun was a homemaker. Mr. Calhoun, a self-employed boat restorer in the Clayton area, died Sept. 25, 1987. He was 58.
Mrs. Calhoun was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
Aaron was a Private, then a Corporal in the Civil War; he was in the 94th Co. of NY Volunteers. He enlisted 18 Dec. 1861 and was discharged 3 Jan. 1864. He later reenlisted 4 June 1864 and was discharged 28 July 1865, serving 3 years, 6
months. His disability was listed as sunstroke.
Obituary (from newspaper of 28 June 1943): CLAYTON---Claude Calhoun, 64, town of Clayton, died about 9 p.m. Saturday at the home of his brother, Arthur Calhoun, with whom he resided for the past few years. He has been in poor health during
the past few years.Funeral services will be held at 2 Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church in Clayton with Rev. Samuel McDougall officiating.
Mr. Calhoun was born in the town of Clayton May 12, 1879, a son of Joshua and Emma Jean House Calhoun.
Surviving are one son, Louis of Grindstone Island, and Arthur of Clayton, and three sisters, Mrs. Milfred Goodfriend of Three Mile Bay, Mrs. William Rusho of Adams, and Mrs. Nathan Walrath of Brownville.
Obituary (from newspaper of Thursday, 16 July 1992): THREE MILE BAY---Amy M. Goodfriend, 95, Three Mile Bay, died at 3 a.m. today at the Mercy Center for Health Services, Watertown.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Hone, Dexter, with Msgr. Robert Lawler, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville, officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Rosiere.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Three Mile Bay or Chaumont fire departments.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth J., Brownville, Francis G., Madrid, and Glenn C., Dexter; seven daughters, Mrs. William (E. June) Bourcy, Dexter, Mrs. Leland (Betty E.) Aubertine, Brewerton, Mrs. Milton (Anna M.) Aubertine, Camps Mills,
Mrs. Morris (Doris) Briggs, Adams, Helena J. Hacker, Chittenango, Myrtle Rendell, Adams, and Mabel Parks, Chaumont; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Four brothers and two sisters died before her.
Born April 6, 1897, in Clayton, daughter of Joshua and Emma Jean House Calhoun, she attended Clayton schools and married Milford Goodfriend Aug. 5, 1920. The couple operated a dairy farm on Swamp Road in Three Mile Bay. Mr. Goodfriend
died June 2, 1977, at the age of 85.
