Obituary: CLAYTON---Robert F. House, 81, House Road, RD 1, died Friday at 1:10 p.m. in Mercy Hospital, Watertown, following a lengthy illness. He was admitted earlier in the day.
The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home here, Rev. Robert F. Nay, pastor of the Clayton Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Town of Cape Vincent.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Donations in his name may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.
Surviving are his wife, Aleta, Clayton; a son, Robert F, Clayton; a daughter, Mrs. Joan Brown, Clayton; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Jessie) Weiderman, Glen Park, and Mrs. Bernard (Josephine) Gardner, Clayton; six grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.A brother and three sisters died before him.
Born Sept. 15, 1899, at Clayton, the son of George B. and Addie May Daniels House, he attended local schools and from 1913 until 1931 he was cheesemaker at Clayton. In 1963, he retired after 19 years at the New York Air Brake Co.
On July 21, 1923, he married Aleta A. Ingerson at Cape Vincent, Rev. Mr. Pratt, officiating. The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last month.
Obituary (from newspaper of Monday, 26 Jan. 1981): CLAYTON---Graveside services for Mrs. Leona F. McAvoy, 91, formerly of Clayton, widow of Karl K. McAvoy, will be held in May in the Clayton Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Cummings Funeral Home, where calling hours were held last week.
She died Jan. 19 at Laurelwood Nursing Center, Elkton, Md., after a brief illness.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Jean) Henry, Elkton, Md.; a son, Avery M., Shreveport, La.; a sister, Mrs. Rosalie C. Barker, Carthage; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, and nephews.
Four children, Carl, Mrs. Arlene Clark, Mrs. Arloine Dartnell and Mrs. Mildred Belair; two grandchildren, Jack W. Clark and K. Kenneth McAvoy; four sisters, and two brothers died before her.
Born Aug. 21, 1889 on Grindstone Island, a daughter of James and Carrie Garnsey Fitzgerald, she married Karl Kendall McAvoy Jan 16, 1909 at the Baptist parsonage with Rev. Burt J. Lehigh officiating.
The couple moved from Grindstone Island to the Clayton-LaFargeville Road in 1926.
Mr. McAvoy died Dec. 25, 1957 at the age of 71.
Mrs. McAvoy lived in Clayton until 1974 when she moved to Elkton to live with her daughter.
Obituary (from Thousand Islands Sun of 8 Jan. 1970): CLAYTON---Word has been received here of the death of George M. Fitzgerald on Dec. 25 at his home in Harrisburg, Pa. after an illness of several years.
He was born in the Clayton area on Jan. 8, 1897 and attended local schools. He was the only son of James P. and Carrie Garnsey Fitzgerald.
Surviving are his wife, Martha of Harrisburg, Pa.; a son George W. and five grandchildren of Oxford; three sisters, Mrs. Esther Roach, Mrs. Ruth (Charles) Maricle and Mrs. Leona McAvoy of Clayton; a half brother, Ernest Russel of Clayton;
a half sister, Mrs. Rosalie Barker of Carthage.Funeral services and burial were in Harrisburg, Pa.
