Horace DWYER

Obituary (from newspaper of 18 March 2000):  CLAYTON---Horace J. Dwyer, 83, Clayton-Cape Vincent Road, died Saturday afternoon at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he had been a patient since Feb. 21.

    Mr. Dwyer was a farmer in the Clayton and Cape Vincent areas most of his life and also worked at G.L.F. Feed Store, Beacon Seeds, and Frink Sno-Plow.  He retired in 1975 and later worked at the Thousand Islands Club, Wellesley Island, and
did construction work for Donald Wood.

    Born July 7, 1916, in Orleans, son of Clarence and Rose Garnsey Dwyer, he attended Clayton rural schools.

    He married Philena M. Dwyer on Feb. 26, 1941, in the Depauville Methodist Church parsonage with the Rev. Lewis Wright, pastor, officiating.

    Mr. Dwyer enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, and carpentry.

    Surviving besides his wife are a son and his wife, Gary and Kathy, Cape Vincent; three daughters and their husbands, Linda and Sterling LaLonde, Clayton, Elaine and Paul Mason and Evonne and James Pike, all of Cape Vincent; 13
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

    A brother, Clifford, died before him.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at T.R. Jetty Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Pierce, pastor of Cape Vincent United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial arrangements are incomplete.

    Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Donations may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.


Truman H. BURNHAM

Obituary from Watertown Daily Times of 28 Feb. 1962:  SYRACUSE--Truman H. Burnham, 71, of 105 Meadowbrook drive, North Syracuse, a former resident of Watertown, died Saturday night in St. Joseph's hospital, Syracuse, after a short illness.

    Mr. Burnham retired in 1955 after 30 years of service with the Greyhound Lines, which began in Watertown with the company, then known as the Colonial Bus company.  He was a member of the Odd Fellows in Depauville, Central City Bodies.  A
masonic service was conducted Monday evening by Central City lodge.

    Survivors include his wife, Ethel Dwyer Burnham, a sister, Mrs. Alice Comins of Watertown, and several nieces and nephews.

    The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Fairchild and Meech funeral home with Rev. Robert L. Larson officiating.  Spring burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, in the town of Cape Vincent.


Delia A. DODGE

Obituary from Watertown Daily Times of 23 May 1922: CHAUMONT, May 22--Mrs. Delia A. Burnham, widow of the late Ira Burnham, died Saturday evening at 6:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hayes Comins, near St. Lawrence, aged 73 years,
following a brief illness.  Practically all her life had been spent in this vicinity.

    She was married to George Jeffers in 1871 and two children were born, William, who died at the age of one year, and Mrs. N. J. Turnbull of Canton, who survives.  Mr. Jeffers died in 1878 and in 1886 she married Mr. Burnham.  Three children
were born, Mrs. Hayes Comins, with whom Mrs. Burnham had made her home for the past few years, Eugene Burnham of Watertown, and Truman Burnham of Rosiere.  Five grandsons also survive.

    Mrs. Burnham was a member of the Clayton Rebekah lodge and active in the St. Lawrence Ladies' Aid.  The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from the St. Lawrence Methodist Episcopal Church, Rev. Ethel Knapp officiating.  Burial
will be at St. Lawrence.


Earl R. DWYER

Obituary (from newspaper of 21 Oct. 1995):  CLAYTON---Graveside services for Douglas R. Dwyer, 75, Napa, Calif., formerly of Clayton and Rochester, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Cemetery, town of Cape Vincent, with the Rev. Alvin
H, Mayo, pastor of Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church, officiating.

    Mr. Dwyer died Saturday at Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru, Ill.

    There will be no calling hours.  Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Home.

    Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Clifford A. (Violet E.) Barker, Watertown, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Born June 16, 1920, in Clayton, son of Earl R. and Lena M. Nims Dwyer, he graduated from Clayton High School in 1939.  Prior to entering the Army Jan. 21, 1943, he worked in the offices of the garage belonging to the late George O. Gillick
in Clayton and the New York Air Brake Co., Watertown.  He served during World War II.

    Mr. Dwyer was a superintendent and apartment manager for Fenna Vescy, Inc., Rochester.  He lived in Rochester for 30 years after retiring.

    He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
