J. E. Clark DANO

Obituary:  CLAYTON---Clark E. Dano, 81, of Outer James St., a retired farmer and retired employe of the New York State Highway Department, died Tuesday evening at 6:30 at his home.

    The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Clayton United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard E. Barton officiating.  Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Cape Vincent.

    Calling hours will be at the convenience of friends at the Dano family home tonight and Thursday afternoon and evening.  Arrangements are with the Cummings Funeral Home.

    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Myrtle A. Shaw Dano; a daugher, Mrs. Gary G. (Alvera Jean) Schleher, Clayton; two sons, Ellsworth A., Syracuse, and Clark J., Clayton; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Slate
and Mrs. Evelyn Parker, both of Clayton, and a brother, Kenneth, Theresa.

    Born Dec. 2, 1885, in Lansdowne, Ont., a son of Frank and Jeannie Lindsay Dano, he attended Lansdowne and Grindstone Island schools and had resided in the Clayton area since 1906.

    He married Myrtle A. Shaw at Clayton May 12, 1917, with Rev. J. A. Sherlock of Depauville officiating.

    The couple operated farms near Clayton, moving into the village in 1947, where Mr. Dano was employed by the state highway department, retiring in 1960 because of ill health.

    Donations may be made in his name to the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund.


Myrtle A. SHAW

Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of Saturday, 3 Aug. 1996):  CLAYTON---Myrtle A. Dano, 96, outer James St., died early Friday at Edward John Noble Hospital-Samaritan Extended Care Facility, Alexandria Bay, where she had resided since
February.

    Mrs. Dano and her late husband, Clark A., operated a farm for 28 years before moving to Clayton in 1947.  Mr. Dano, who worked for the state Department of Transportation before his retirement, died Dec. 21, 1876.

    Mrs. Dano later was a nutrition aide at the Paynter Senior Citizen Center, retiring in 1988.

    Born June 4, 1900, in Clayton, daughter of Albert and Etta Adele Joles Shaw, she attended Clayton schools and married Clark E. Dano on May 12, 1917, in Depauville at her parents' home with the Rev. J. A. Sherlock, then pastor of Depauville
Methodist Church, officiating.

    Surviving are a son, Clark J., outer James St.; two sisters, Arlievene Conant and Leola Wrape, both of Watertown; 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

    A daughter, Mrs. Gary (Alvera) Schleher, Clayton, died April 9, 1993.  A son, Ellsworth A., died May 4, 1981.  Two brothers, Roy and Roland Shaw, and three sisters, Beulah Ingerson, Mabel E. Brown, and Arsule Sue Schmitte, also died
previously.

    The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at T.R. Jetty Funeral

Home with the Rev. Joseph DeGroote, pastor of Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial arrangements are incomplete.

    Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Donations may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund or Clayton United Methodist Church.


Kenneth N. DANO

Obituary (from newspaper of Friday, 7 Sept. 1990):  CLAYTON---The funeral for Kenneth N. Dano, 90, Route 12, formerly of West Theresa, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, with the Rev. Winifred Daughen,
Methodist minister, officiating.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa.

    Mr. Dano died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he had been a patient one day.  He had been in failing health the past year.

    Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Contributions may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department ambulance fund or to Hospice of Jefferson County, Inc., P.O. Box 677, Watertown, N.Y. 13601.

    Surviving are a granddaughter, three great-grandchildren,  a sister, Mrs. Gerald (Evelyn) Parker, Clayton, and a niece, Mrs. Willard (Geneva J.) Farr, Clayton, with whom Mr. Dano had lived.

    A son, Norman, died Jan. 2, 1969.  Five brothers, Clark, Elmer, Thomas, Frank, and Brice, and three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Slate, Irene and Mabel Dano, died previously.

    He was born March 19, 1900, in Canada, a son of Frank and Jennie Lindsey Dano.  At the age of 5, he moved with his family to Grindstone Island, where he attended school.

    He married Mary Newton Oct. 30, 1922.

    The couple lived in Watertown after their marriage.  Mr. Dano was employed at the Dexter Sulphite Co. and also for New York Central Railroad for 16 years.

    Mr. and Mrs. Dano later lived in the Towns of Orleans and Theresa, where they were engaged in farming.  In the late 1940s they moved to West Theresa.  Mrs. Dano died Sept. 7, 1978, at the age of 76.

    Mr. Dano lived in Watertown from 1982 until going to make his home with his niece, Mrs. Farr, in Clayton.


Evelyn Margaret DANO

Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of 9 July 1998):  CLAYTON---Evelyn M. Dano Parker, 96, of 735 James St., died Tuesday afternoon at Edward John Noble Hospital-Samaritan, Alexandria Bay, where she had been a patient since May 1.

    Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and the former owner and operator of Evergreen Motel, James St.

    Born June 18, 1902, in Clayton, daughter of Frank and Jeannie Lindsay Dano, she attended local schools.

    She married Nelson Landon on Dec. 25, 1921, in Clayton.  He died Oct. 3, 1934.  She married Gerald R. Parker on April 9, 1939, in Concordia Lutheran Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Frederick K. Vogt officiating.  Mr. Parker died Feb. 15,
1970.

    Mrs. Parker was a member of Clayton United Methodist Church.

    Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Francis W. (Carolyn E.) Delaney, Clayton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Three sons, Nelson, James, and Leslie Landon; six brothers, Franie, Thomas Charles, Elmer, Clark, and Kenneth Dano; three sisters, Irene and Mabel Dano and Lottie Slate, and a granddaughter died before her.

    A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Clayton Cemetery with the Rev. Joseph A. DeGroote, pastor of Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.

     There will be no calling hours.  Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Home.

    Contributions may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.


Evelyn Margaret DANO

Ellsworth A. DANO

Obituary (from Town and Country News section of Watertown Daily Times of 20 May 1981):  Ellsworth A. Dano, 60, of 6912 Freemont Road, East Syracuse, formerly of Clayton died at 5:19 Monday morning, May 4 at Mercy Hospital, Watertown where he
had been a patient a month.  He had been in and out of the hospital six times since Nov. 8 and had been in failing health for eight years.

    The funeral was held Wednesday at the Cummings Funeral Home here with Rev. Robert Nay, pastor of the Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.  Cremation followed.  Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Town of Cape Vincent.

    He is survived by his wife, Thelma; his mother, Mrs. Clark (Myrtle) Dano, James St., Clayton; four sons, James, Watertown R.4, Wayne, Cape Vincent, Nelson, Syracuse, and Billy, Syracuse; three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Myrtle) Shaw,
Syracuse, Darlene Barbrow, Clayton, and Marla Piper, Watertown R.4; a brother, Clark J. Dano, James St., and a sister, Mrs. Gary (Alvera) Schleher, both of Clayton; 18 grandchildren, Steven, Michael, Edward, Ronnie, and James P. Dano; Cindy
MaxWeen, Suzanne, and Joanne Shaw; Meri, Monica, Melinda, and Michelle Dano; Tim and John Barbrow; Lori and Jamie Piper; Penny and Bruce Dano; one great-grandson, David MaxWeen.

    Also several aunts, Mrs. Arlieuene Conant, Watertown, Mrs. Claude (Mable) Brown, Three Mile Bay, Mrs. Beulah Ingerson, Clayton, Mrs. Pat (Leola) Tot Wrape, Watertown R.4; one uncle, Roland Shaw, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mrs. Evelyn Parker,
Clayton; Kenneth Dano, Theresa and nieces and nephews.

    Born Sept. 1, 1920 in Clayton, son of Mrs. Myrtle Shaw Dano and the late Clark Dano, he attended Clayton schools and married Thelma Docteur Sept. 1, 1939 in Clayton.

    He was a self-employed painter for 10 years and worked at Fort Drum.  He also operated the Redwood Diner gas station in Redwood several years ago.

    He served in the Navy in World War II.
