Byron M. STEELE

Obituary (from newspaper of 23 Sep. 1971):  CLAYTON---Byron M. Steele, 96, formerly of 534 Merrick St., died 6:35 p.m. Wednesday in Madonna Home, Watertown, where he was admitted May 22.  Long in failing health, he had lived three years at the
Coutts Adult Home, Cape Vincent.

    The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Cummings Funeral Home, here, Rev. Robert Mowatt, pastor, Clayton Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery.

    Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9.

    Surviving are a niece, Mrs. Eva Garnsey, 534 Merrick St., with whom he had lived, and cousins.  He never married.

    Mr. Steele was born Jan. 1, 1875 in Clayton, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Steele.  He was the last survivor of a family of 13 children.  Years ago he was associated with his brother, Edwin, in the operation of a milk business.


Raymond E. AUBERTINE

Obituary (from newspaper of Thursday, 12 Jan. 1983):  THREE MILE BAY---Raymond E. Aubertine, 87, a former Watertown Public Works Department employe and former superintendent of the Three Mile Bay Cemetery, died at 1 a.m. today in the House of
the Good Samaritan, Watertown.

    The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the I.C. Becker Funeral Home, Chaumont, with Rev. Robert Cough, pastor of the Three Mile Bay Baptist Church, officiating.  Spring burial will be in Three Mile Bay Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

    Mr. Aubertine is survived by his wife, Marietta Grace; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Anna) Bechaz, Clayton; five sons: Milton, Watertown, Francis, Three Mile Bay, Leland, Brewerton, Robert, Oswego, and Frederick, Chaumont; 23 grandchildren and
32 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Hazel McKeever, North Syracuse, and a brother, William, Clayton.

    He was born in Rosiere, Feb 24, 1896, son of Euchare and Emeline Aubertine.

    He married Marietta Grace Whitney Feb 5, 1920 in Cape Vincent.  The Aubertines, who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversay four years ago, had lived at Three Mile Bay for 43 years.

    Mr. Aubertine was employed for a time with the Watertown Public Works Department and operated a farm.  For several years, Mr. Aubertine was superintendent of the Three Mile Bay Cemetery.

    He was a former member of the Three Mile Bay Fire Department and former president of the Three Mile Bay Cemetery Association.


Marietta Grace WHITNEY

Obituary (from newspaper of Monday, 14 Nov. 1988):  THREE MILE BAY---Marietta G. Aubertine, 88, church St., was pronounced dead on arrival at 1:20 p.m. Sunday at Mercy Hospital, Watertown.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, with Rev. Robert Cough, pastor of the Three Mile Bay Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Three Mile Bay Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Three Mile Bay Ambulance Fund.

    Surviving are a daughter, Anna Bechaz, Clayton; five sons, Milton, Watertown, Francis, Three Mile Bay, Leland, Cicero, Robert, Oswego, and Frederick, Chaumont; [many] grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

    Born at Cape Vincent on June 12, 1900, a daughter of Martin and Marietta Connell Whitney, she was educated at Millens Bay School.

    She married Raymond E. Aubertine Feb. 5, 1920, in the rectory of St. John's Episcopal Church, Cape Vincent, with Rev. Ernest Ladbrook officiating.  Following their marriage, the couple lived at Cape Vincent, moving to Three Mile Bay in
1940.  Mr. Aubertine, a farmer and former employe of the Watertown Public Works Department, died Jan. 12, 1984.

    Mrs. Aubertine was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Cape Vincent.


Anna M. GOODFRIEND

Obituary (from newspaper of 26 June 2000):  SACKETS HARBOR---Anna M. Aubertine, 74, formerly of County Route 66, town of Hounsfield, died today at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, where she had been a resident since June 1998.

    Mrs. Aubertine worked at Northland Electric Co., Watertown, for 18 years, retiring in 1981.

    Born April 1, 1926, at Three Mile Bay, daughter of Milford and Amy Calhoun Goodfriend, she attended Three Mile Bay schools.

    She married Milton R. Aubertine on Jan. 26, 1946.

    Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Judy) Lyng and Debra Hayward, both of Watertown; three brothers, Glenn Goodfriend, Sackets Harbor, Kenneth Goodfriend, Brownville, and Francis Goodfriend, Madrid; six sisters,
Mabel Parks, Chaumont, Betty Aubertine, Brewerton, Helena Jacker, Florida, June Bourcy, Dexter, and Doris Briggs and Myrtle Rendell, both of Adams, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

    A son, Robert, died before her.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cleveland Funeral Home with the Rev. Benoit C. Dostie officiating.  Burial will be in Three Mile Bay Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
