Obituary (from newspaper of 22 Dec. 1967): CLAYTON---Hubert H. Garnsey, 61, Mattydale, formerly of Clayton, died Wednesday afternoon at his home.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sears Funeral Home, North Syracuse, with Rev. Edward Stady, pastor of North Syracuse Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Seldon
Ward, pastor of Clayton Baptist Church, officiating.Mr. Garnsey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Kingsley Garnsey; a son, Dr. Hubert H, Garnsey, jr., Cicero; his mother, Mrs. Eva L. Garnsey, Clayton, and three grandchildren.
Born in Clayton, June 9, 1906, a son of Burton and Eva L. Garnsey, he moved from Clayton to Mattydale in 1941. He was employed as a carpenter by LaBarge Brothers Construction Co. in Syracuse.
Mr. Garnsey was a dog fancier and showed prize-winning St. Bernards. He donated his earnings from this hobby to charity.
Obituary (from newspaper of 7 Jan. 1971): Mrs. Cora M. McConnell, 85, of 817 Bingham Ave., widow of Walter J. McConnell, St., died this morning at 8:25 in the Mercy Hospital, where she had been a patient since Dec. 28. Death was attributed to
terminal pneumonia, aheart condition and infirmities of old age.
Surviving are five children, Mrs. Clifford H. (Helen) Timmerman, Clayton; Mrs. Roland (Frances) Garnsey, Delray Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Dwain P. (Florence M.) Bowman, 817 Bingham Ave.; Walter J., Ilion, and Robert A., Gouverneur; grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.Another daughter, Mrs. Alden E. (Edna M.) Bishop, died here Oct. 15, 1969. A son, Harold H., died in Utica at the age of 60 on Sept. 30, only two weeks before.
Mrs. McConnell was born at Carthage May 24, 1885, a daughter of Daniel and Melinda Carter. She was married to Walter J. McConnell of Watertown in this city on Jan. 19, 1902.
Mr. and Mrs. McConnell lived in Syracuse until 1917 and then on Grindstone Island, until 1923. Later, they operated farms at Clayton, LaFargeville and Theresa until Mr. McConnell retired in 1951, at which time they returned to Watertown.
Mr. McConnell died June 14, 1965 in this city.
The funeral will be Saturday morning at 8:30 from the Cummings Funeral Home and at 9 in the Holy Family Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Obituary (from Thousand Islands Sun of 8 June 1988): CLAYTON---F. Joseph Garnsey, 46, died May 29 at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, Fla., after a long illness.
Born Aug. 24, 1941, he was the son of Roland and Frances McConnell Garnsey. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and was a seasonal fishing guide in Clayton and boat captain in Florida.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Blade Garnsey. They were married in May 1978. She now resides in Del Ray, Fla. with his sister Donna Lee Garnsey.
He is also survived by the children of his first marriage to Kathryn Letarte in 1961, Jeffrey Garnsey, USN, Charleston, S.C.; Lesa Cooper, Groton, Conn.; Kimberly Garnsey, Norwich, Conn. A son Joseph Jr. died in 1977.
Survivors also include brothers James and Roland, Jr., Pompano Beach, Fla., Gerald, Margate, Fla.; sisters Betty Davis, Pompano, Fla., Patricia Link, Omar and Donna Lee, Del Ray, Fla.; three grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces
and nephews.A memorial service was held at St. Elizabeth's Church in Pompano Beach, Fla. on June 2, and on June 3 at St. Mary's Church in Clayton with Msgr. Herbert Hannan officiating. The body was cremated and the remains will be buried in the
family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery in Clayton at a future time.
Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of 11 April 1977): CLAYTON---Frederick Joseph Garnsey, Jr., 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Joseph Garnsey, Clayton and 109 Sunrise Blvd., Delray Beach, Fla., died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in a Boca Raton, Fla.,
hospital of injuries received earlier that day in a car-bicycle accident.The Garnsey youth and a friend were returning home from the beach when the bicycle on which the Garnsey youth was riding was struck by a car.
The funeral will be Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Clayton, and 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Beside his parents he is survived by two sisters, Lisa Michelle and Kimberly Lynn; two brothers, Jeffrey and Gregory; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Harriett M. LeTarte, 525 Riverside Drive, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roland
Garnsey, Clayton and Delray Beach.Born in Watertown July 17, 1962, son of F. Joseph and Kathryn LeTarte Garnsey, he was a student at Thousand Islands Central School. His father is a St. Lawrence River guide.
