Frederick Joseph GARNSEY

Obituary (from Thousand Islands Sun of 8 June 1988):  CLAYTON---F. Joseph Garnsey, 46, died May 29 at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, Fla., after a long illness.

    Born Aug. 24, 1941, he was the son of Roland and Frances McConnell Garnsey.  He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and was a seasonal fishing guide in Clayton and  boat captain in Florida.

    He is survived by his wife Phyllis Blade Garnsey.  They were married in May 1978.  She now resides in Del Ray, Fla. with his sister Donna Lee Garnsey.

    He is also survived by the children of his first marriage to Kathryn Letarte in 1961, Jeffrey Garnsey, USN, Charleston, S.C.; Lesa Cooper, Groton, Conn.; Kimberly Garnsey, Norwich, Conn.  A son Joseph Jr. died in 1977.

    Survivors also include brothers James and Roland, Jr., Pompano Beach, Fla., Gerald, Margate, Fla.; sisters Betty Davis, Pompano, Fla., Patricia Link, Omar and Donna Lee, Del Ray, Fla.; three grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces
and nephews.

    A memorial service was held at St. Elizabeth's Church in Pompano Beach, Fla. on June 2, and on June 3 at St. Mary's Church in Clayton with Msgr. Herbert Hannan officiating.  The body was cremated and the remains will be buried in the
family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery in Clayton at a future time.


Paul R. GARNSEY

Obituary (from newspaper of Friday, 27 March 1992):  CLAYTON---A graveside committal service for Paul R. Garnsey, 80, of 517 Riverside Drive, will be held in Clayton Cemetery later in the spring.

   Mr. Garnsey died Tuesday morning at his home.

    There are no calling hours.  Arrangements are with the Cummings Funeral Home here.

    Contributions may be made to the Paynter Senior Citizens Center Inc., 519 Riverside Drive.

    Surviving are a son, Thomas F., Schenectady; a granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Esther Alteri, Schenectady, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    A brother, Kenneth Garnsey, died previously.

    He was born Aug. 21, 1911, in Clayton, a son of Benjamin and Helen Gale Garnsey.  He attended Clayton area schools.

    His first marriage ended in divorce.

    He later married Eva F. Lawton in Cape Vincent.  Mrs. Garnsey, a native of North Wilna, died July 30, 1985, at the age of 76.

    Mr. Garnsey was a carpenter for many years.  He first worked at Pine Camp, and later was self-employed throughout the Clayton and Wellesley Island areas.


Eva F. LAWTON

Obituary (from newspaper of Wednesday, 31 July 1985):  CLAYTON---Mrs. Eva F. Garnsey, 76, wife of Paul Garnsey, of 729 Beecher St., died Tuesday morning in Edward John Noble Hospital, Alexandria Bay.

    A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cummings Funeral Home here, with Rev. Dale E. Austin, pastor of the Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery.

    No calling hours will be held.

    Donations may be made in her name to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.

    Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ward, Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Helen Barkley, Oxnard, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Cousins, Carthage; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and cousins.

    Born in North Wilna May 20, 1909, the daughter of Benjamin D. and Alice Pease Lawton, she attended schools in Sterlingville.

    She was first married to Hilton Marsh.  Mr. Marsh died in March of 1945.

    She was then married to Paul Garnsey at Cape Vincent.

    Mrs. Garnsey worked as a domestic for 14 years for the Art Kellogg Motel and Cottages, retiring several years ago.

    She was a member of the Clayton United Methodist Church.
