Grindstone Island Scholarship Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

The GIRHC board is very pleased to offer scholarships every year to high school graduates who are going on to higher education through college or technical school.\u00a0 Do you have someone in your family with ancestral ties to Grindstone who might apply for a GIRHC scholarship?<\/p>\n

The GIRHC’s scholarships are administered by the Thousand Islands Foundation, an affiliate of the Northern New York Community Foundation.\u00a0 Students may apply through the high school counseling office in northern New York high schools, or they can access the application through the new foundation website portal by clicking here<\/a> – scroll down to the Thousand Islands Foundation option and click to see the list of scholarships and the online application. Anyone seeking further information may call Brenda Patch, Chairman of the GIRHC Scholarship Committee, at 315-523-0672.<\/p>\n

The Heritage Scholarship<\/h3>\n

Heritage Scholarship candidates must be a direct linear descendant of a full time resident (past or present) of Grindstone Island and live within a thirty five mile radius of the island.\u00a0 Candidates may attend a school outside of the Thousand Islands area.\u00a0 Since the year 2000 thirty-four scholarships have been awarded.<\/p>\n

The Mary Lou Nunn Rusho Memorial Scholarship<\/h3>\n

Mary Lou Nunn Rusho Scholarship candidates must be a direct linear descendant of a full-time resident (past or present) of Grindstone Island OR <\/em>the direct linear descendant of a multi-generational summer family.\u00a0 Candidates are NOT <\/em>required to live within a thirty-five mile radius of Grindstone Island, and they may attend a school outside of the Thousand Islands area.\u00a0 Since the year 2011 six scholarships have been awarded.<\/p>\n

All applications are due to the Northern New York Community Foundation by May 7.\u00a0 Scholarships are announced by the Foundation in early June.\u00a0 The Board of the GIRHC requests that scholarship recipients attend the annual Schoolhouse Picnic and Auction at the Heritage Center on Grindstone the second Sunday of August, to be formally recognized by the Board and Island residents.<\/p>\n
